ICAR KVK Dimapur conducts Training on Scientific Kharif Crop Production

        ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur, in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Kuhuboto Block, organized a training programme on “Enhancing Yield of Kharif Crops through Scientific Farming Approaches” cum method demonstration on line sowing of soybean at Ahozhe village on 6th August 2026.
        The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers on improved scientific crop production practices for enhancing the productivity of kharif crops. During the training, Dr. Bendangla Imsong, Chief Technical Officer (Plant Breeding), ICAR-KVK Dimapur, emphasized the importance of adopting improved crop varieties, timely sowing, balanced nutrient management, and scientific agronomic practices to achieve higher yields and better farm income. She also demonstrated the method of line sowing of soybean and highlighted its advantages, including optimum plant population, ease of intercultural operations, efficient nutrient utilization, and improved crop management.
        Ms. E. Lireni Kikon, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Plant Protection), ICAR-KVK Dimapur, delivered a technical session on the major insect pests and diseases affecting soybean during the kharif season and their effective management through integrated pest and disease management (IPDM) practices. She advised farmers on the importance of regular field monitoring, timely identification of pest and disease incidence, adoption of preventive measures, and the judicious use of recommended plant protection chemicals to minimize crop losses and ensure sustainable soybean production.
        A total of 23 farmers participated actively in the programme. To encourage the adoption of improved technologies, soybean seeds of variety DSB-32 were distributed to the participating farmers for cultivation during the current kharif season. The programme concluded with an interactive session, where farmers clarified their queries regarding soybean cultivation and other kharif crop production practices.
